My Two Cents On Letting 18 Year Olds Get Married.

Image
Hello my good people. I hope you have all been well, It's been a while since I last posted on this blog. But in my defense, a lot of big changes such as getting married. I started going to church for the first time in like 13 years so a lot happened in my life since then and these changes came with alot of learning and unlearning in order to figure them out. Not to say that I have figured everything out yet, I still have miles to go, but all this had me limit the amount of fucks I gave about what is really happening around me and the world in general and I started channeling my energy into figuring out how to navigate the new territory I am in now.  Speaking of MARRIAGE, the Rwandan parliament proposed a legislation to allow 18 year olds to get married. let me stop there. it's a long story, there are pro news articles such as this one   that explain it better than me from a political point of view. I am not a politician so I can't really say much about how laws are passed

Dear Rwandan Women, We Failed You.

I don't remember much of it but in 2003, I was only 12 years old and only cared about my next football game with my childhood friends and how to survive bullies. But I remember all the buzz and the speeches and how the new constitution would aim to get women in parliament with a 30% involvement. and it happened. It was a capital W for all women across Rwanda. The bar was set high. The standards couldn't be any higher. Fast forward 2021, there's a lot of women in all sectors of the country and in all professions. In some sectors, women command a larger percentage than men. It's a good thing, it gives hope to women that there's so much to strive for and working hard could get you a career as a woman in this capitalist world ruled by me. Slightly different to the old days when women would only be groomed to be wives. But you know the thing about setting the bar high? it's that you have to be consistent in what you do. You have to keep the level of commitment that

Back in 2015 when I was working for Kepler, There was this beautiful lady who was interning there. (I just lied on the first paragraph and it's embarrassing) I have no idea if she was interning there or working somewhere else. All I can remember well is that she was doing her Master's degree (probably her PHD) and used to come to the office frequently. Pretty much had her spot there and would come in whenever she wanted and work on her thing. You might be asking yourself, why didn't I be a nice person and act like I care and ask her what she was working on? well... can't say I was too busy, it's just that sometimes you have to have a reason to walk up to someone and talk to them. especially when you know you're not disturbing. this story pretty much covers the whole thing and how I missed my window of ever finding out anyway. It was her final week at the office and she was swamped with work and asked me if I had time to do/work on something for her t

We are in an era where social media platforms are very influential to the vast majority of people who use them and those who don't. You'll ask a friend where they got the information and they will tell you "My friend told me he read it on Facebook" Very many people are flocking to use social media for very many reasons. We have social media influences, and we have influential people who like everyone else use social media to express their personal views and sometimes involve their work. These are people at the height of our food chain, these are the people we look up too to make decisions that will literally impact the entire country and for that, we hold them with high regard and put high standards on them. Standards that come with the fact that what they do will affect all of us. Just like we follow and learn from what they do and say, agree or disagree with the decisions that they make, it makes little to no change from the decisions they make because we are mostly

Mwaramutse? Yesterday, Patriots Basketball Club had a game. Huge win for a team representing Rwanda as the host nation. All good. I did not watch the game but I looked up the results and saw some highlights on YouTube. dare I say, they aren't bad. Patriots are good. Then comes one particular person (J. Cole) who's game wasn't all sunshine, at least in the eyes of so many Rwandans that were expecting a spectacular performance. I mean it's J freakin Cole. A world renowned rapper that is so much adored by so many people all over the world for his music. Prior to his involvement in theBAL (Basketball Africa League) and news breaking everywhere in the world that J. Cole would be part of the theBAL, not to perform there with his music, but playing for one of the teams, Patriots Basketball Club. I don't think I would've given it much attention as anyone else across the globe (especially in the USA who have the word's greatest basketball league). I mean. Time zone

Things may actually not be the same as they used to be for quite some time.

I have COVID-19. I have had the virus for the last 26 days. I was very sick with another infection one week prior to contracting COVID-19, and when I returned to work, I unknowingly spent time with an infected person and got COVID-19 before I could fully recover, and boy was it bad. My immune system was at an all-time low and I was still on medication.  With COVID, I got so sick to a point where it crossed my mind that I could die. I wrote down all passwords to my bank accounts and properties I own, where they are, and who to contact because I actually don't have a next of kin, and I was hoping this paper would be passed on to my best friend who also happens to be my little brother, Walt. It’s not like I didn’t take the measures in place to stay safe from the virus; I am just saying that with a little over 40 people all infected at my workplace, it was kind of inevitable to some degree. Luckily for me, the company I work for rented out a hotel for us, and we have been treated fro

Dear Tweeps, we are doing this the wrong way.

Let me just use the word social media enthusiasts because I hate the word addict. That is what most people say but when you think about it, someone's activity/presence really varies on priorities, responsibilities and how much time they can afford to spend online. So I wouldn't call someone an addict just because they can afford to spend more time actively using social media than the other. I am an IT Officer. I spend 12 hours in front of a computer screen daily because my job requires me to. I would lie if I said it is possible for me not to use social media when all I do is stare at a computer screen all day. I take a 3 minute break every 10 minutes to just walk around for the sake of my eyes but also to refresh my memory. But to avoid a ton of distractions, I decided to only have one social media app I use which is Twitter. It’s a no brainer why I chose twitter, I get all the tech updates I need in no time from TechCrunch, The Verge and my favorite YouTuber MKBHD.
